Lake Bogoria National Reserve

Lake Bogoria National Reserve is a stunning protected area located in the Kenyan Rift Valley, about 285 kilometers northwest of Nairobi. The lake lies in a trough below the Ngendelel Escarpment, a sheer wall 600 metres (2,000 ft) high.The lake covers 32 square kilometres (12 sq mi).It is geothermically active on the western shore, with geysers and hot springs.The geologist J.W. Gregory described the lake in 1892 as “the most beautiful view in Africa”.

The centrepiece of the reserve is Lake Bogoria, a soda lake that is home to one of the largest populations of lesser flamingos in Africa. The lake is also known for its hot springs, geysers, and steam jets, which create a spectacular display of boiling water and steam. Apart from its geological wonders, Lake Bogoria National Reserve is also home to a wide variety of wildlife, including baboons, warthogs, gazelles, impalas, and zebras. The reserve is also a sanctuary for endangered species such as the greater kudu and the African wild dog.
